My 1-year-old Acer Icona Tab A700 tablet died and Acer says "Tough luck!"???

Obtained a brand-new Acer Icona Tab A700 tablet almost exactly one year ago and it "died" a few days ago; it will not turn-on or charge, no light comes on at all. I tried the reset thing with a paper clip, no response. I then contacted live chat help and was told it was out of warranty and nothing could be done, I would have to pay to have this 1-year-old device repaired. Completely unacceptable customer service! I'm very, very diasappointed in Acer and plan to make my experience as widely known as possible.
