I did some reading. Turns out it was the bios options of "safe boot mode" and "launch csm" which needed tweaking. New hardware is not recognised without those.

Hi, i just bought an aspire tc-105. My gaming performances were not satisfactory and i tried upgrading the video card with something i had lying around. I installed it in the pcie slot hooked the monitor and on booting got no image. Tested the card on another machine it still works. I was told by an acer representative it was because the power supply couldn't handle the card.I bought a new power supply and a new video card. Installed both, still no image. I figured maybe there was a video conflict with the "onboard GPU". There is nothing in the bios about it. I don't know if it would be possible to remove it but i don't know where t look. PC is brand new it didn't have time to get a defective pcie slot i think.
