Thanks.

I used 7zip to extract the files. However, there are 2 .FD files in the list:
HM77x64.fd

NM70x64.fd

...and no clue about which one to rename and copy to the flash drive.

Also, there's no FLASH*T.EXE in the list. The .exe files are:

FLSHOOK.EXE

FWUPDLCL.EXE

INSYDEFLASH.EXE

...and no clue about which one (or all!) I should put on the flash drive.

BUT...almost there!

Chris

When I open the .zip, I get an executable called Q1VZC109 and a readme that says "Please click "Q1VZC109.exe" to update bios."

This helps not at all, since I cannot execute it on a machine that won't boot

I was not clear. My machine powers up, but the screen remains black. It has all the symptoms of that BIOS problem described in many places on the interwebs.

Huh. I copied the link from the page with my drivers, or thought I did... Lemme look. Yep- that's all it says on the URL. It gives me a choice of a Windows 8 BIOS (not for upgrades, it says) and a version 1.09. I don't have Win 8.

My model is A0756 (is that a zero or an 'oh'?)

Thanks,

Chris

Hi,

I think I need to do the flash BIOS installation on my Aspire one. Using my SNID I got my exact model, and clicked the BIOS tab under Drivers. I downloaded the BIOS version, but there is no FLA**bleep**.EXE application in there. Given the warning I see there (wrong BIOS may harm your computer!) I hesitate to take any further steps.

Where can I find the correct BIOS to copy onto a flash drive, along with FLA**bleep**, to get my notebook to boot again?

Thanks

Chris

I am having a similar problem with my Aspire. I believe I need to flash the BIOS. From what I've read, you need to find your model on the Acer support website, and download the BIOS onto a freshly formatted pen drive of 2 GB or less. Use FAT to format the pen drive.

Unzip the BIOS package, go into the DOS directory and copy the BIOS (should have an extension of .fd) and FLASH IT.EXE (that's one word but it gets edited) to the root directory of the pen drive. You also need to rename the .fd file- I don't recall the name but Google around and you will find it. I believe it's something like "Z51?????" but it might be different for your model. Make sure your laptop is powered down and plugged in. While holding the Fn and ESC keys, press and hold the power button until it starts to flash, then release all 3 keys. Everything I've read says that if you've done it correctly, it should take 1-7 minutes for the machine to boot. If you have not done everything correctly, you run the risk of permanently trashing your machine.

All that being said, the latest versions of BIOS that I need do not seem to unzip into a .fd file and the FLASH IT.EXE application. I get an executable file and a README that says "Click on the (executable) to update the BIOS." Well, I cannot do that because my machine won't start. When I look at an earlier version of the BIOS (1.06 I believe, instead of 1.08) I get TWO .fd files, with no indication of which is the right one for my machine. I have an Aspire One A0756 series, model Q1V2C.

If anyone can give me some advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
