Just curious. How do you know the wifi field strength? I had the wifi drop issue when I first got my chromebook, but it pretty much went away for some reason. When I first got it, I had to reset the wifi now and then. Also, I was using my 2.4ghz network. I now use my 5ghz network, and I don't remember when the last time was that I had a wifi drop. My daughter also bought a chromebook after using mine. When hers came I immediately set it up on my 5ghz, and as far as she knows it has never lost connection.

Last night I found that a newer Samsung Tablet connects to my 5ghz wifi at 150mps. That's half the speed that my windows computers are connecting to my 2.4ghz wifi. I know according to my router specs, that the 5ghz wifi can connect up to a rate of 1350mps. Just wish I knew how fast my chromebook wifi connection speed is.

The speedtest.net would only give me the speed of my internet connection which I already know should be around 15871KBPS, or 15Mbps. I just wanted to compare the speed of my 2.4ghz wifi connection which is 300Mbps, according to my windows network center, to whatever my 5ghz wifi connection is. I really don't understand how the wifi connection can be faster than the internet connection, but if the figures are right, it's true. That gives me an idea, I have a friend with a phone, that connects to my 5ghz. I'll have to see if it gives a reading somewhere on the phone.

I'll try to make my explanation of how to reset the wifi after a disconnect a little plainer. First click on the wifi icon that will have only an x in the middle of it if it is disconnected. Then click on the arrow to the right of no networks. Then click on the wifi icon again, and your wifi should turn on and your networks should appear, and if you've set one of your networks to connect automatically it will connect. Other wise cick on your network. You should be done, unless something else is wrong. Your connection should stay stable until the next time you turn your book on, and it decides to disconnect. Then just repeat the procedure.

I was just wondering if there will ever be an easy way to know the wifi connection speed in Mbps like the Network Center in windows shows? I know my 2.4ghz connection speed is 300Mbps from looking at the network center on my windows computers. Only my chromebook recognizes, and uses my 5ghz connection. I tried using varous convoluted methods suggested on the internet, but it didn't show me any plain results.

I'm not sure how similar my wifi drop issue is to others. I use my chromebook on my private home network. When I first got the Chromebook it would connect to the wifi when it first powered up, and then a few minutes later it would disconnect itself, and insist that there were no networks available, which I knew wasn't true. After restarting the Chromebook several times, and having the same thing happen each time I found that I could fix the issue for each session by going into the wifi control section, looking for other networks. When the disable wifi prompt would come up this enabled me to enable the wifi, and it would find my dual band networks, along with my neighbors. I would click on one of my networks, and my connection would be stable for the rest of my session until I turned my book off again.
