I didn't know there was a WD version of Acronis. It's been years since I've used Acronis but I remember it was easy to use and always seemed to work.

Anyone know if the button can be disconnected internally? I don't think there are any taredowns on this model on youtube.

An option to completley disable the button would be great as it makes using the laptop as a tablet next to impossible. I'd even be happy to get in there and unhook a cable if that's what it took.

Aspire R7-572 Screen Rotation Sometimes Gets Stuck

I've experienced this a few times so far. If I rotate the screen into portrait mode sometimes it does not want to rotate back out. A full reboot seems to take care of the issue.

Touch Screen failing on R7-572

I've been getting an annoying random failure of the touch screen on my R7. I found a KB article, KB2769287, on MS but it seems to apply to WIn8 and not Win8.1. It will not let me apply the patch.

Anyone else have this issue or a fix?

R7-572 Cloning to Samsung 840 SSD

I'm looking to see if anyone has had success clonning the original hard drive to a Samsung 840 SSD drive? Most likely I will get the 840 Pro 256GB drive.

The 2.5" drives have a little bit better performance specs over the mSATA so I figured I'd go with the SATA. Also, I don't want to be powering any magnetic drives.

Amazon has a USB3 to SATA adapter that looks like it works with the drive from the reviews I have read. What I'm wondering is if the Samsung cloning software will work through this setup. Option 2 would be to put both drives in my desktop and clone from there.

I have been using a dual band router with this laptop but I also tried it with my U-verse gateway running 802.11g on 2.4 Ghz. That seemed to work fine too but the U-verse gateway is rahter robust, even if it's only a g router. So it may be certain routers it doesn't work too well with.

I have the two wifi points setup in opposite ends of the house. I have to reset my Belkin 802.11G dual band router every so often. It's not as reliable as the U-verse gateway.

If there is a physical limitation to fixing this, and not software, perhaps Acer could design a cover that would clip on over the button?

I've tried flipping it around backwards but it rides down after a bit and then the screen flips. It's also not stable enough that way.

Another thought, would using a screen protector cut over the button help?

I'd upgrade this to serious design flaw bug!

Another simple workaround would to fold it down angling in the other direction. That way the capacitive button would be on top. If I were doing heavy pen work I think that would be my choice. It's a little more eligant than tape.

Yes, I would like to add this is a design flaw as well. Anyone who has taken a pen to this device probably would agree.

I was reading people sometimes use something like electrical tape but that's kind of a sloppy hack.

I'd even be willing to disconnect the internals if that were possible. I can't think of any reason it's actually required to have this button if you know the basic gestures.

Apire R7 - Disable Capacitive Button?

Is it possible to diable the capacitive home button on the R7? It's seriously annoying when using it in tablet mode, especaily with a stylus pen. Ironically, it is there because it can be used as a tablet. But it isn't needed either.

I did some searching and found instructions to disable it on a Surface but that didn't seem to work.

I just have the R7-572-6423 as is with the memory upgraded to 16 GB. I plant to upgrade to an SSD drive sometime in the near future but I can't afford the down time now.

My problem is that I never want to use the magnetic disk when I have a SSD available in a system. You can feel the lag when switching over.

I'm in the middle of a big software project so I'll wait for that to be over first.

I put in the Crucial Ballistix today. Better timings too over the CAS11 memory the system came with. I'll probsbly get a msata soon but for some reason the system seems rather fast for a 5400 rmp laptop drive. It boots up rather quick. I've seen some horrible performance on laptop drives.

The sticks I got at Best Buy were 1.5v. So I ordered some Crucial Ballistix Sport 1.35v CL9. Costs less and lower latency too. It seems there is only a handful of options at the given voltage and speed.

A little word of caution when it comes to removing the screws under the pads. The long pad wanted to sepparate from its adhesive layer and won't to go back on as snug. I'll put some adhesive on there when I reassemble everything.

I guess the other port on there is a msata port. It looks like it would be easy to do an SSD upgrade.

Thank you, I just came back on here to post the same thing after I just got the bottom off. So anyone upgrading this would have to get two 8 GB dimms sticks.

By the way, anyone know what the slot is between the WiFi card and CPU fan? It's marked JMSATA1 and looks to be free. Can a SSD be added there? It doesn't seem to have much room or mounts around it.

Out of curiosity I picked up a 2x8 kit today and will give it a try. Hopefully I'll have that tiny torx screw driver tomorrow.

If it doesn't work I'll be able to exchange.

I also experimented with the Surface Pen and that failed to work on this digitizer. I'll order the Acer pen.

Memory upgrade on R7-572-6423

I haven't seen a thread here on the new model so I figured I'd ask here. The published specs mention the laptop is upgradable to 16 GB of ram. However, I ran CPU-Z to check the memory installed. It says there are two 4 GB Kingston Value Ram sticks installed in banks 1 and 3. It shows banks 2 and 4 as empty.

Now I see that there are single 8 GB modules available on the market. Would it be possible to upgrade the laptop to 24 GB or 32 GB of ram?

Also, as I have a torx driver on order I haven't been able to open up the system yet to check. Are there really 4 memory slots available? I see mention the previous model had solded chips.
