I looked up the hardware via s/n and it showed I have a Elantech touchpad. I installed the latest driver, but the Device Manager still shows it as a "Mice and other pointing devices" located at "plugged into PS/2mouse port".

How do I get it to recognize it as a touchpad?

I have an Aspire V5 571P-6642. I seem to be having the same problem. My device manager doesn't even recognize it as a touchpad. Instead, it shows it as a PS/2 Compatible Mouse with Microsoft driver version 6.2.9200.16384.

I also tried the link in Cory's first post in this thread and it did not even list a touchpad.

Steve

Stolen laptop Miami Beach

My laptop was stolen in Miami Beach on January 22nd, 2014. The serial number is **** and a police report has been filed. Can Acer register this serial number as stolen, so someone cannot register it? I searched this forum and the Acer technicians stated that a police report needs to be filed and the serial number must be identified. I did those, but I cannot find how to get Acer to acknowledge that they entered this into their database. If necessary, I can provide a copy of the police report and my invoice showing that it was purchased (ironically) exactly one year ago to the day it was stolen (January 22nd, 2013). Thank you
