That's because windows 8.1 has this feature called fast-startup.

I believe it's on by default. In this mode it never really, really shuts dows but pseudo hibernates.

I have both the msata disk and an SSD installed. If you got the money I highly recommend this setup, it's fast and ultra-quiet. And the SSD runs cooler than a mechanical disk.

Seems to me it's a driver or bios issue. (power failure, broken cable...in theory could also be causing this, but you only re-installed software, so hardware issues don't seem likely).

two things which come to mind:

- Have you checked in system devices that all devices are ok, recognized and have drivers installed? Perhaps you forgot some drivers? (perhaps mainboard drivers?)

- Did you change the bios version by any change? Might be the problem.

good luck!

You could check the following (I have the dutch version of windows 8.1, so hope you can follow).

1. activate the charmbar (on the right side).

2. Go to 'settings'

3. go to 'pc settings' which is down below.

4. go to 'pc and devices' (first one in the list)

5. click bluetooth. Now you should see the status of your bluetooth radio.

hope this helps!

Hi Sawdre,

If you had searched the forum you would have found the solution. I had the same question and with the help of Acer and this forum I now have a ssd in the extra hdd slot.

Anyway, you need two components:

SATA connector
part id: 20.M9UN2.001

caddy
part Id: 33.M9UN2.004

In the Netherlands Acer doesn't sell those parts themselves but they have preferred sellers. So using those partnumbers ask Acer support where you can buy them. It cost me around 40 euros, say 50 dollars.

good luck!

acer 5610 battery causes fan to stop working

I've got a very weird situation here, hope someone can help me...

My acer 5610 sometimes just suddenly shutsdown. I've been figuring out what's going on and I know this:

- the battery is not recognized by the laptop, it's not charging and it's not found.

- with the battery inserted, the CPU fan doesn't run when temperatures start to rise. At about 85 degrees Celsius the cpu overheats and the laptop shutsdown.

- with the battery removed, the fan works just fine, it starts spinning when temperatures rise and keeps the cpu relatively cool.

So the battery is somehow preventing the fan from working!! How weird is that?

I've updated all drivers to the latest version, flashed the bios to the latest (3.60) version but the problem still persists. I think it's got something to do with the laptop not recognizing the battery, but I really don't know how to solve this.

oh.. yes I cleaned the fan and exhaust, everything runs smoothly.

any ideas would be appreciated!

regards,

Andrik

I believe different RAM modules (4 and 8 for example) is no problem. What could be a problem is if you buy a RAM module which runs on the wrong voltage.

I know for a fact that on the R7-572G the mem voltage should be 1.35. Most ram runs on 1.5 V which in this case is incompatible, so please find out which voltage the ram modules should support and before buying.

If you can post a picture of the motherboard, we can see.

It sounds like it's the same situation as with my R7 572G. It also has as mSata drive and additional space for an 2,5" disk. However, to install the extra disk a bracket AND a MOLEX type sata adapter is necessary.

The bracket is readily available, the sata connector isn't. I'm still waiting for a reply from the acer folk where I can order the sata connector.

You might try to search the internet for spare parts, or just talk to Acer about it.

There have been only 2 generations of the R7.

The latest R7 has the 4th generation Core i7, haswell processor. this processor will run cooler, more efficient then the 3rd gen core i8 in the R571 series. battery time is also longer running on haswell.

the older R7 used to have some WIFI problems..not sure if that ever got solved.

So to answer your question....if money is no concern go for the more recent version ;-). Simple as that.

HDD install in Acer R7 572G

Hi,

I recently bought an acer r7 572G (europeon model) with a 256Gb ssd.

After looking inside the machine the ssd actually appears to be a mSata drive.

So the slot for an 2,5" hdd/ssd is empty. Now I want to install a ssd drive in that spot but I'm missing two parts:

- a bracket for the hdd. (part 33.M9UN2.004)

- some kind of special acer SATA connector to connect the HDD to the motherboard.

This last part, the sata connector, is something of a mystery. I can't find it anywhere listed. So far, acer hasn't been able to help me.

So my question to you other R7 users out there, could someone, with a Hdd installed in that slot (most 572 and 571 versions) please post a picture of the sata bridge/part (which connects the hdd to the motherboard) so I have some visual reference as to what I'm looking for?

I would be most grateful!

thanks in advance and kind regards,

Andrik

EDIT:

I included a picture of anandtech site showing the internals of the R7 WITH an 2,5" hdd. I circled the part I need. Hope someone can take a clear picture of the part or perhaps even knows the part number.
