For anyone still having the problem and their WiFi adapter is Intel. Here is a link to a new driver, released on 23rd December. It solved the intermittant problems for me. Intel Link

I've just managed to update my intel wireless on my Acer E1-571 from the Intel site where they have a new driver waiting for those having problems.

Not acceptable Tommy. We need the Intel wireless driver for Windows 8.1. Is there nothing Acer can do to hurry that along? It's inconveniencing a lot of people.
