I tried the erecovery and it got part way through and it stoped and said I needed to get the media disks which I did. When they arrived I switched to booting from the CD and it went as far as asking for the first of 3 disks then it stopped no message just stopped. Stated it again but when I get back inot the select restore type it only gives me the option to select Exit.....anyone have any hints as to what I should try next?

Thanks Steve

Try to boot from the first DVD recovery disk again. At the point where it stops, press and hold the Alt+Home or Alt+Fn+Home key combination to try to minimize the installation screen. There may be a hidden screen waiting for a response from you. If no hidden screen appears, try ejecting the first disk at the place where it stops, then insert the 2nd disk to see what happens. Report back with results. Thanks

Jack E/NJ

Ok Jack I bought this for my daughter to use in college reports research stuff just something to help her out. Anyway it appears it was taking some type of update and got shutdown. When she tried to restart it she got an error screen that asked if you wanted to start it up in safe moe , normal, etc., but it would not do anything beyond that. She brought it to me and I tried the erecovery and I selected factory delete any data and it started to go and after 30 minutes I got an error screen that said it needed the disks which I didn't have so I ordered them from ACER as it also had the HD replaced through warranty. Anyway got the disks and when I try to boot from the CD it only gives me the EXIT option non of the # above it and thats leaving it for hours.....wits end but now its getting personal as I have a quest to get this thing working.....thanks Steve

Yes I have tried to do the erecovery from the HD with no success.

Is there a way of wiping the HD and start from scratch?

Sorry. You may have another HD problem as I suspect the Acer erecovery DVD may be having a hard time reading it and simply stops. Accordingly, I suggest you try to take a look at the HD using a stand-alone partition editor such as the GPartEd freeware http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php .

This freeware is used to make a bootable USB stick a the partition editor program. If GPartEd also has a problem reading the HD, then you know you're gonna have to replace it again. HDs are fairly inexpensive these days from Amazon and probably with a much higher capacity than you've got in there now.

Jack E/NJ

Erecovery should reload the Acer version of Win7 on a new HD. Before recommending a new HD, please check to see what you have in there now by booting the laptop into the bios menu by tapping the F2 key at the Acer logo splash screen.
