I am sorry to hear that your HDD has failed and requires replacement. From what you have stated you are correct the replacement HDD is good, however I would test another HDD but smaller (500 or less GB) to see if its a compatibility issue. I don't see this being the problem but better to know for certain. The alternative would be that the internal connector has gone bad or is damaged and would explain why it is not being detected.

Aspire 5750-6867 with Western Digital 500GB HDD factory install of Win 7 SP1 64-bit Home Premium.

Original HDD starting to show signs of failing, via S.M.A.R.T and WD Diags. WD sends replacement HDD under

waranty. Replacement HDD is 750GB, BIOS will not recognize it when installed in internal HDD bay.

It is however recognized when attached via IDE/SATA USB external connector device and also is recognized

in a different laptop internal bay. Based on this, I feel confident the new drive is fine, just that for some

unknown reason my Aspire will not recognize it in it's internal HDD bay. Have tried both SATA Mode IDE and AHCI

settings, and resetting BIOS to defaults, with drive still not being recognized.

Orignal HDD

 500GB WD5000LPVX

Replacement HDD

 750GB WD7500BPVX

I am grateful for any assistance on this, thank you in advance.

@Acer-Ryan, Thank you for your response. I have since convinced WDC to send me the same model 500GB HDD. This

allowed use of Acer Utility to restore partions and apps for the Recovery DVD's. However after running the Western

Digital Diagnostics, which failed. The BIOS doesnot now recognize a HDD is installed. I then took an older 'spare' HDD

of 320GB and installed in the ACER. It passes all diags and seems to be running smoothly. The Acer as previously stated did come with 500GB from factory. This raises the question, are there certain drives that may not be 'compliant' 100% with

this ACER model?

I have since the above installed the 500GB drive in question into another laptop and it passes all WDC diags and other

tests succesfully. It would appear that it is related to this drive in the Acer laptop. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.
