Hi,

I have to ask confirmation before I buys the USB key to backup my recovery. When I go in to the Acer backup utility it tells me that I will need a external drive with at least 32 GB memore in order to backup. Here is my question, when we buy those USB keys sold as 32 GB but have actually less then 32 GB space available, does this took in account in Recovery utility count when it ask for 32 GB ? or I am forced to buy a 64 GB stick just to back up recovery ? that seem too much and 64 GB stick arent cheap

Thanks for yor help

It's telling you the correct size. It has factored in the way storage space is marketed.

You can use a 32GB flash drive; the recovery takes about 18.6 GB, there is quite a bit left unused.

I'm not 100% sure if you'll get full advantage of 3.0 just because the drivers won't be loaded...

I would recommend using 2.0 just because it's cheap, you can get a 32g for 20$ish...and set that aside and you'll always have a 30-45 minute ultimate fix for your computer if you run into trouble in the future.

I just installed a 256GB 840 evo MSATA drive and kept the factory 1 TB in place. I'm noticing a peculiar behavior with windows after cloning the system onto the MSATA using Samsung's cloning software. I'm trying to create a USB recovery backup on a 32GB lexar USB drive and each time I run it via F12, it can't find a backup file. When I choose the USB UEFI option, it exits and runs the whole process again. If I chose the advanced options, if doesn't find the recovery file to boot from. I repeated the process a number of times, and it indicates that the recovery backup was created succesfully but it still doesn't allow me to run the backup if I boot onto the USB drive.

I'm trying to see if the MSATA cloned drive has some errors. I used samsung's cloning software to transfer the files from the factory drive to the MSATA. It's is able to boot succesfully into the msata drive but it has a strange looping error. The windows 8 taskbar resets every minute like clockwork and continues in a perpetual loop. It doesn't seem to affect any ongoing process that I'm running. I could be watching streaming video from ESPN and I could see the windows 8 taskbar "blink." The icons on the taskbar as well as the date/clock disappear for a brief second then recycle and reappear. The same goes when I have it on the "tile" mode. The tiles would disappear for a second and then refresh and reappear. This happens even when I actively use the windows and appears to be a looping background process as I'm able to stay on task without windows crashing. It would freeze for a brief moment as it "refreshes or blinks." This cycle occurs like clockwork. This only occurs when I'm booted onto the MSATA drive but DOES NOT happen when I boot into the factory 1TB drive. I thought that installing from a recovery USB would be ideal instead of cloning onto the MSATA. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
