Acer Aspire XC-603

I bought a desktop Acer Aspire XC-603 and as I don't fully understand computers can't set it up. It said to change bios to get the drivers to load up. When I bought it, it was claimed I could download windows 7. Can someone please help me by tell how to set it up to work.

Hey greyoldtime,

I have a couple questions for you. First, can you share your reason for wanting to go to Windows 8? Obviously, you hear a lot of people complain about not liking it, but I've been using it for about 8 months and I really like it. It is a quicker and better operating system than Windows 7 in my opinion, it's just not as familiar when you load up into the 'tiles'. I haven't seen that tile screen in months and wouldn't know the difference except for the charms bar, which I sorta like now that I'm use to it.

The only reason I'm asking the questions is that if you have any chance of staying with Windows 8, I think you'll have a better experience. Let me start off by providing this FAQ here: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32011

The 4th FAQ down is "How do I enable Desktop mode", once enabled, Windows will boot to the desktop and the applications will open in their appropriate desktop application. This was a life changer for me when the Win 8.1 update came out.

Finally, if you're interested in going to Windows 7, here are the steps needed to change your UEFI(BIOS) to legacy mode. http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27045 This will allow you install Windows 7 but there are some other factors to consider

Make your Windows 8 recovery - We may require you to go to Windows 8 if you need warranty support.
Get the drivers for Windows 7 before you start - Acer does not provide drivers for the XC-603 in Windows 7 (that doesn't mean it won't work, but we don't ship it with Windows 7 so we don't qualify the drivers)

Thank you for your help and the links. You raise some interesting points and the answers are that I'm resisted blind. I can see but not good, my daughter uses a laptop with windows8 which I don't get on with main because I keep loosing the mouse pointer and not familiar with the touch pad. I'm using an old desktop with windrow XP and the screen is far better for me than the laptop. I was advised to get windows7 by the people who help with blind equipment although I think its their own preference. I will try setting up the new computer at the weekend with my daughter. I think you're right about the windows8 but I'd like to see how I get on with 7 and maybe try 8 at a later date.
