I've never had a monitor that took so long to display. Acer's monitor for the Aspire X1930 first displays some energy saver logo (chunky, highly aliased graphics) and then displays "Acer."

Okay, I got it! It saves energy and it's an Acer. But I don't need to know this each time I turn on the monitor.

I like to save energy when I go to eat or take a break, but I like to have my work ready for me the moment I get back. Is there any way to turn off these notifications?

No, there is not.

I can suggest using a screen saver instead of powering the monitor on and off.

Well, Acer-Tommy, thanks for your fast response! At least I know.

If you are able to, please pass on the suggestion to your development team that at least one customer doesn't like these banners. I can see bottom center of my monitor the "Acer" logo all of the time.

Thanks again!

As far as I'm aware, there should not be a banner with an Acer logo on your screen at all.

Yes, there are the boot up logos, but they should go away and the entire screen should be usable for you.

Until I purchased my Acer, I had never experienced a separate "boot" screen for the monitor. Yes, the CPU box has its boot screen, but now so does the monitor (a separate pair of screens) -- showing an Energy Star screen and an Acer screen each time I turn on the monitor (even thought the computer (CPU box) has been on the entire time).

I prefer not to use the screen saver feature, because sometimes the screen saver will turn on while I'm reading something or watching a video. So, I turn it off.

Turning off the monitor helps to save some energy when I'll be away for an unknown amount of time (to handle a problem or to have lunch with my wife or to step out of the room). Now, I just leave the monitor on, because I don't like the seconds to wait through the "monitor boot."

YES!

I found this thread by way of search, because I, too, was hoping for a way to disable the stupid Acer/EnergyStar logos when I turn on my Acer T272hl monitor. It really annoys me having to see and wait for these pointless logos EVERY. TIME. I turn on my monitor.

It also encourages me to keep the monitor on more frequently, rather than turning it off knowing I will have to deal with these logos, which defeats the purpose of "EnergyStar".

Using a screen saver rather than powering off the monitor can't be a good suggestion, can it? Even if it's an all-black screen saver, it will be using a lot more power than if the monitor is turned off. Besides, I often use non-windows software (e.g. backup applications) that do not support monitor power management, which means I have to manually turn the monitor off, because screen savers and power management functionality simply isn't available.

Assuming you run Windows, go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose when to turn off the display.

As far as the original issue, can't they release a firmware update for this monitor? Isn't it possible to update the firmware via USB? (Oh, I know it'll never happen even if it is possible.) I just hate how people are such idiots that they buy a monitor, turn it on, see colors, then go rate it with 5 stars everywhere.

Well, Acer-Tommy. Still no solution?

Yes, there is an Acer banner (and Energy Star) screen every time I turn on the monitor. Of course, this happens at boot up, but if you turn on the monitor, first, you'll see the Acer screen and Energy Star, then if you boot the computer, you'll see a separate Acer banner screen.

Turning off the monitor while the computer remains on will repeat this Acer banner and Energy star screens and that's what's annoying.

I also dislike (immensely) the Caps Lock logo in the center of the screen. Dumb! Some people may like it, but too often it gets in the way of the text and it's hard to read what I'm typing.

If you have such "features," have the ability to turn them off.

This is making me not want to buy Acer!

Imagine that!

Crosspatch, I don't know about software. When I bought the machine, new, it came with this "feature." If I remember correctly, this was on every Acer unit in the store when I went back to ask about this feature.

I did a test, swapping out monitors, and it seems to be in the box, rather than the monitor. If it's special software, it must have been installed when the machine was set up (manufacturer?). The retailer couldn't tell me anything about this.

If I turn caps lock on, a gray rectangle with a white image of a lock about an inch and a half tall appears just below the center of the screen. Annoying as all get out. When I turn caps lock off, the lock appears again, but this time unlocked. If the text I'm typing appears behind this image, then I have a hard time reading where I am.

My keyboard tells me when caps lock is on. It's also obvious from what I'm typing. So this extra feature is redundant and a nuisance.

So, back to the Energy Saver / Acer Logo business with the monitor. Perhaps someone from Acer can chime in on this.
