Ok thank you I will try all that and let you know if I got it right.

I actually have two drives the computer sees but does not access

1: SSD OCZ Vortex 3 120GB

2: Seagate Barracuda 3TB

I am currently trying to fix the SSD first then the Seagate.

As you indicated, the Windows Disk Manager says it is "unallocated" space. I have no drivers to install and I could not find any on the OCZ Technology website. There is a firmware update but from what I read, it does not apply to my situation. When I log off here I will go back thru the BIOS (again!!). The Seagate website had offered little help before I updated the BIOS so we will see.

Thanks again, Lloyd

I updated the BIOS and the system properties sees the HD. But it is not visible in My Computer. I can eject the hard drive when plugged in to my external SATA reader -- same issue, the computer system says its there but does not show in My Computer.

What are my other options (other than returning the drive)?

Thanks for any help,

Lloyd

I have done all that and the computer only gives me access to 750GB and then 1.3TB. The last 750GB the computer will not allow me to access. Again it shows me that it is there as unallocated space, but I cannot do anything with it.

I learned today that Acer Vista 32-bit Home Premium will only allow for 2TB HD. The individual suggested I upgrade to the 64-bit OS and I should be able to access the full 3TB at that time. He said that my product key would be transferable from 32 to 64-bit. I am now trying to download a 64-bit OS and will test that theory later this week.

I thank you all for your replies. I am a bit crazy with work and this is the first I am checking the reply since whenever. I will let you know if all this works.

Lloyd
