Replaced HD

HD crashed. Couldn't access it no matter what I tried. Okay, no problemo, I have a drive I can swap in.

Contacted Acer and gave them the SNID to get the proper installation software sent out.

This is an Acer Aspire One Netbook. No CD/DVD drive. So what does Acer sent me? CD's of course not a thumbdrive.

Now what do I do?

1 language CD

1 system CD

2 recovery CD's

You connect a DVD drive and use the media, starting with the System CD.

That would be a grand solution. If I owned one. Which I don't. And which I will not buy just for this.

Acer never built these netbooks with an optical drive. The recovery media should have been on a thumbdrive.

That is like sending floppy discs to someone without a floppy drive but they DO have an optical. That is a stupid thing to do.

So the 'solution' of buying an external optical drive did NOT solve my problem.

I solved the problem by installing windows then going to the Acer website and installing all the software piece by piece. I did that with another computer and a THUMB DRIVE.

That took a noce long time that could've been used elsewhere. But the non-forward-thinking people at Acer couldn't provide the media that would work out of the box.

The comedian Ron White has a line that I believe applies here. 'You can't fix stupid.'

Forrest Gump provides yet another. 'Stupid is as stupid does.'

And not providing the recovery media on a thumb drive is, in my opinion, stupid. I'm also sure that others will agree.

Acer is off my list.
