I am experiencing the same issue with my new Acer M5-581T which I received as a Christmas gift this last Friday (12/28/2012). I confirmed that I do have the most updated driver for the WiFi net adapter. Meanwhile, I do not have any connection problems with the other 8 WiFi connected devices in my house. I read from some posts on other boards that there seems to be a problem with the Bluetooth and WiFi drivers on the Acer M5, but I do not know if this is an accurate issue. I did, however, disable my Bluetooth on my Acer M5 (I do not use Bluetooth with my laptops/ultrabooks anyway), but there was no impact = I still have issues with the WiFi disconnecting often with my Acer. If I do not get a resolution on this issue I will be returning my M5 and getting a different ultrabook.

I have upgraded to the latest wifi driver 10.0.0.217 and still have random drops and limited connection issues. Is there ever going to be a fix for this or do I need to return within my 30 day window? Any adivce or known proven solutions? Thanks.

Hi

I had the same issue when i updated to the latest drivers on my acer m3. so i re installed the older driver 10.0.0.75 from the acer website 2 days now without any disconnects

If the above driver is available for your m5 then i would suggest you give it a go

Hope this helps.

I also had similar problems the last few weeks. I reinstalled 10.0.0.77 driver this week and it seems to be better so far.

I downgraded to .75 wifi driver and wifi has been rock solid after resetting PC to factory and haven't applied any windows updates or acer updates other than the VGA update and ID Vault or something like that through the acer update utility. Steered clear of any updates to wifi or windows and been good to go.

I ended up contacting Swaroop of Acer Support via online chat session on 12/31/2012. He recommended that I reinstall the latest WiFi driver even though the driver installed was the latest driver (Atheros WiFi LAN adapter driver v10.0.0.217 dated 10/27/2012). So, I went ahead and downloaded the from Acer's download page for the M5-581. It seemed to a little better for a few days as long I did not move around the house with my M5. Once I start moving to another room to work, I start getting random and frequent disconnects with my WiFi connection again. Now, today, I often get a connection with limited access = I've been able to get full access that is workable 3 times this morning and the connections eventually drop again with signal strength showing all bars. I have verified numerous times that all is well with my home network. In fact I have 8 devices (2 iPhones, 1 iPad, 2 Roku boxes, and 3 PCs) and 1 wireless extender off my LinkSys router without experiencing any problems with any of these devices' WiFi connections. I've had up to 14 devices on my home WiFi network in the past wthout any issues before.

So when experiencing WiFi connectivity issues again this morning, I took a look at the driver download site again, and I see there is another new driver (v10.0.0.217v3 dated 12/28/2012). I"m going to try it as I love all that the M5-581 has to offer based on its advertised feature set. However, I cannot work with a machine that does not have dependable WiFi connectivity and I am getting sick and tired of dealing with issue with a brand new machine. If this does not work I'm taking my M5 back and getting a different ultrabook.

[edited for privacy]

OK -- I completely uninstalled the existing WiFi v10.0.0.217 driver dated 10/17/2012, rebooted my M5-581, and then installed the newest WiFi driver (v10.0.0.217v3 dated 12/28/2012), and in the last 20 minutes since peforming this newer driver install, I do see that the WiFi connectivity seems more stable. I am going to walk around the house and work in dfferent rooms as I normally do to see if all continues to do well.

Acer Support: Thank you for posting the newer driver. I know you are all dependant on your vendor's hardware and drivers and this issue seems to have been taking a LONG time to resolve. However, I am thankful for this online support forum you have running. Without it, I would have returned my Acer M5-581 by the 3rd day I had it and I just got it in the last few weeks (on 12/27/2012).

Thanks again.

My wife's M5 model has the same problem. I updated the wireless network card driver. It seemed to be stable for a week, but now it is constantly dropping the wireless connection. We are hoping Best Buy takes it back under the 1 yr warranty we purchased with them. There are many competing touchscreen laptops out there now. This was one of the first. Sadly, it has this problem.
