Copying a DVD

Hi All,

I have just bought an Acer Apire V5 Touch and want to copy my Wedding DVD to the hard drive so I can play it without having to take the disc with me. I am told that this is possible without buying any new software, but I'll be damned if I can work out how to do it!

Can anyone help?

Generic method to copy a non-locked DVD (or CD).

Decide what directory (folder) on the hard drive that you want to save the file to. Presumably My Videos.

Load the DVD.

Click on the DVD drive from My Computer.

Highlight the file you want to copy.

Select copy from the side menu N.B. DO NOT SELECT MOVE

Select Browse and find your destination folder

Click on your destination folder

Click copy.

Et voila, it is done.

Insert the DVD to the optical drive,

explore the contents by double clicking on the DVD drive icon.

select the file you want to copy, press Ctrl key+ C.

go to the destination folder, press Ctrl key + V, to paste the file.

Ok, I did all that and now have a folder in My Videos but when I open the folder, it doesn't play and I have 2 folders inside it which are called Audio TS and Video TS.

Can I get these to play?

it opens the core folder with the audio & video folders showing on screen.

OK, so from there open the video folder and double left click any video file. It should open some default video software and play your video. Let us know what happens.

Looking at your directory structure, your movie appears to be in a standard DVD format (VOB files etc).

You can easily view this with VideoLAN VLC. It is free and can be found here:

http://www.videolan.org/

Run it and navigate to your movie directory (the one containing Audio TS and Video TS) with Media > Open Folder...

Hi,

I tried this but my smartscreen would not open the file, sayinig it would harm my hard drive.

Any thoughts?

I have no idea what 'smartscreen' is but I suspect it's not very good!

VideoLAN history:

It has a long pedigree and is held in high regard. I doubt very much that a product that has been around for 15 years is likely to pose a threat. I have used this excellent player for many years and I have never had any anti-virus or malware alerts raised.

Of course, it is your choice whether you choose to risk it or not.
